David Flory - Southwest Companions

TEANECK, N.J. - A longtime New Jersey college professor with homes in New York City and in New Mexico has been arrested and accused of operating a prostitution website that he told police he operated as a hobby. David Flory was arrested Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M., and charged with 40 counts of promoting prostitution. Flory has taught at Fairleigh Dickinson University since 1969 and has been a physics professor there since 1980, according to his website. He also has served as director of FDU's School of Natural Sciences. Albuquerque Police Lt. William Roseman told The Record newspaper that Flory promoted prostitution through Southwest Companions, a password-protected website. Roseman said Flory told police he considered the website a hobby and didn't make any money from it. Flory's website describes his academic background, publications and course descriptions as well as his family: Two daughters and a stepdaughter, four grandchildren and a wife who works as a psychotherapist specializing in eating disorders. The site also features a virtual tour of the couple's vacation home, Casa de Los Arboles, in Santa Fe. Flory's wife, Sharon, didn't immediately return a phone message left Tuesday at the couple's apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side.A Fairleigh Dickinson University spokeswoman said the school was saddened by the arrest, but did not say if Flory had been suspended from his job. - AP
