Clairton woman sets bed, husband on fire

A Clairton woman has been charged with setting fire to her husband at their home while the couple's four children were inside, police said. Kenyatta Clemons, 40, was charged early Saturday after, police said, she set fire to the bed where her husband, Edward Clemons, was resting in their Elm Street home around 11 Friday night. Mr. Clemons told Allegheny County police that his wife doused the bed with lighter fluid and lit the fluid following an argument they had. Mrs. Clemons admitted that she poured the lighter fluid over her husband and set the fire because she could no longer take "the verbal abuse" from her husband, according to a police affidavit. The couple told police they removed their four children from the home once the fire spread. Mr. Clemons suffered minor burns, the affidavit said. Mrs. Clemons is facing four counts of child endangerment, four counts of endangering persons through arson, five counts of reckless endangerment and one count each of criminal mischief, aggravated assault, and causing or risking a catastrophe. - Deborah M.
