Michael Lohan To Open Rehab Center, 'God Will Be A Major Element'

Michael Lohan says he's moving to California to open a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, he told RadarOnline.com. "Yes, it's, true, I'll be running it," Lohan told us in an exclusive interview. "I think it's time that Dina and I both step out of the media for a while, and for me that means getting back to what I know best -- helping people with addiction." Michael says the rehab center is being backed by "a really well known person" but says he can't disclose yet who it is. "But I have my entire team of therapists in place and the financing is done. We're still negotiating the location," he told RadarOnline.com. "I'm going to have a protocol that will be have to be followed. I don't believe in prescription drugs," he said. "If people come in on them they're going to have to get off of them, otherwise they'll be looking for another rehab." Lohan continued: "I believe spirituality and holistic methods can cure anything. God will be a major element in recovery." - RadarOnline.com

The arrest came during a week in which a buglary attempt was made on Hilton's Los Angeles home. Officials said 31-year-old Nathan Lee Parada faces a felony burlgary charge in the Tuesday incident. Lindsay Lohan & Lou Taylor

The troubled starlet has handed the reins of her messy finances to Lou Taylor, the savvy, no-nonsense Nashville businesswoman who guided Spears back from the brink. Spears' manager, Larry Rudolph, is also believed to be interested in getting involved in Lohan's music career. Lohan is currently lying low at home in LA, where just two days out of rehab, she's already turning down offers of up to $150,000 to host parties at clubs and casinos. One source told us, "It doesn't seem right -- Lindsay just got out of rehab and prison, and certain casino owners are offering a ton of money for her to host a party and be around alcohol when she has specifically been told not to." She has support from her mom, Dina, and Lou Taylor, who is a strong influence and a deeply religious and principled woman. "Lou has been working on fashion deals for Lindsay." the insider said. "Larry Rudolph was like a father figure to Britney, and Lou is referring some business to him." Taylor, who runs Tri Star Sports and Entertainment, quietly came on board with Lohan earlier this year and wired her a $10,000 bail bond after she returned from her ill-fated Cannes trip in May. Judge Elden Fox has forbidden her to drink alcohol or do drugs, and required her to attend AA meetings and undergo mental health counseling. Any slip-ups could result in a 30-day return to jail. - NY Post

Course of Empire - Ed Ruscha

Hirst and Dunphy part company
Frank Dunphy, who many credit as the man behind Damien Hirst’s empire building, is stepping down. Dunphy, who was responsible for some of the artist’s most ambitious projects including the now-infamous 2008 Sotheby’s auction, “Beautiful Inside My Head Forever”, will remain on board as a consultant until his retirement at the end of the year. He will be succeeded by a new business manager, James Kelly, who joins Hirst Holdings after more than 20 years as a senior partner at international accountancy and tax advisory firm, Rawlinson & Hunter. Banksy forgers sentenced to community service

Lee Parker & Grant Champkins-Howard
Two men who sold fake Banksy prints were given a 12-month suspended sentence in July, at Kingston Crown Court, in west London. Grant Champkins-Howard, 44, of South Croydon, and Lee Parker, 45, of Eastbourne, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud. They were also banned from selling anything on the internet for five years and ordered to undertake 240 hours of community service. The British graffiti artist Banksy, being anonymous, may have appeared a particularly easy target for fraudsters, since he would presumably be unwilling to appear in court. Lawyer Richard Mandel, prosecuting, said Howard and Parker were “keen Banksy enthusiasts who exploited the weaknesses of an anonymous artist”. They sold the fakes in Britain and abroad, mainly through eBay. The men had identified an opportunity, after prices of authentic prints rose by up to tens of thousands of pounds. Detective Constable Ian Lawson, of the Metropolitan Police Art and Antiques Unit, said after the case: “This was a lucrative and unscrupulous scam in which the culprits had no qualms about ripping off collectors.” An eBay spokesman commented: “We are delighted to hear of the sentences, having worked closely with the Metropolitan Police since September 2008.” The police were also in close contact with Pictures on Walls. Lawson believes the fraud has had a negative impact on the art market: “The harm done by the defendants goes beyond the immediate losses to their individual victims. Buyers’ confidence is vastly important in the legitimate collectors’ market in art. When fraudsters infiltrate fakes, that confidence is dented, with an inevitable [negative] effect on prices.” - Martin Bailey, The Art Newspaper

Mark Simon

Mark Simon is as mad as hell about reprographic royalties. When someone pays for my art or to make copies of my art, I have this weird attitude that I actually want to get the money. When I find out that someone receives my money and I don't get any of it, it pisses me off! It should piss you off, too! Did you know that companies and institutions here in the U.S. and in foreign countries around the world pay royalties for photocopies they make of pages and images in books and written and visual materials? Did you know that companies here in the US collect those royalties on your behalf? Did you know these sums run into the millions of dollars? Have you gotten your check? - Mark Simon

Spike Lee and Michael Jackson

The 2nd Annual Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration from 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks on Vimeo.

The Root: Why did you start the annual Michael Jackson birthday bash in Brooklyn?

Spike Lee: Are you coming? We are doing it again Aug. 29, Prospect Park. DJ Spinna is going to be on the wheels of steel. It was a great success last year, and we want to keep celebrating for as long as we can Michael's birthday, the king of pop. And it's fun.

The Root: But there are people who are conflicted about him, particularly around the accusations of his relationship with children.

Spike Lee: They don't have to come. [Laughs hysterically.] They don't have to show up. We had 25,000 last year, and we expect more this year.
