June 29, 2009 Gay Bar Raided, Arrests Made in Texas By Julie Bolcer Police in Fort Worth, Texas, raided a gay bar early Sunday morning, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, arresting seven people and resulting in one serious injury. The raid at the Rainbow Lounge occurred on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City. Fort Worth police say they conducted a routine alcohol beverage code inspection on at least one other bar that night and that the arrests at the Rainbow Lounge were for public intoxication. Police say some of the patrons arrested made “sexually explicit movements” toward officers. Witnesses disputed the police account and said that officers used excessive force. They report that one patron was hospitalized with a fractured skull as a result of the raid. More than 100 protesters gathered at the county courthouse on Sunday to rally and demand an investigation into the raid. -advocate.com

Convicted Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison Monday for a fraud so extensive that the judge said he needed to send a message to potential imitators and to victims who demanded harsh punishment. U.S. District Judge Denny Chin rejected a request by Madoff's lawyer for leniency and said he disagreed that victims of the Ponzi scheme were seeking mob vengeance. "Here the message must be sent that Mr. Madoff's crimes were extraordinarily evil and that this kind of manipulation of the system is not just a bloodless crime that takes place on paper, but one instead that takes a staggering toll," Chin said. The judge said the estimate that Madoff has cost his victims more than $13 billion was conservative because it did not include money from feeder funds. Michael Jackson's will was filed Wednesday in a Los Angeles court, it names his mother, Katherine Jackson, 79, as a beneficiary of the trust and the guardian of Jackson's children, who are also named as beneficiaries of the trust. It also names entertainer Diana Ross as a successor guardian for the children and their estates if something happens to Katherine Jackson.Michael Jackson's mother, having won temporary guardianship of her late son's three children, is now attempting to take control of the King of Pop's estate, according to a person close to the court proceedings. Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted Katherine Jackson temporary guardianship of the children on Monday. He also scheduled a hearing for Aug. 3 on Jackson's petition to become permanent guardian of her son's children. The petition also seeks to name Jackson as administrator of the children's estates, but the judge did not grant that request. Katherine Jackson filed another court action Monday, seeking to take control of her son's estate, according to a person close to the proceedings who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and requested anonymity. She is taking that action with the intent of protecting Jackson's legacy, the person said. Jackson left behind three children: Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., known as Prince Michael, 12; Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11; and Prince Michael II, 7. The youngest son was born to a surrogate mother. In the request to take over the children's estate, Jackson, 79, lists its value as "unknown."

As for the appetite for the salacious details of Michael Jackson's life, my hope is that we let him go in peace. We already know he led a tortured life. He also led a great one in which he loved, and was loved, by many. Let his family heal, and let his fans celebrate his music and his giving heart.

ELIZABETH Taylor is inconsolable. Screaming in her house. She always stood up for Michael, and he always thanked her with diamonds. They were best friends. They shared much -- crippling addiction; dazzling stardom. She was at his trials with compassion. He was at her birthdays with jewels. Physically, Elizabeth today is almost unmovable. Yet she planned to attend his opening concert in London next week. She was to leave July 8 on a private plane in a wheelchair with nurses and assistants in attendance. In fact, early the very morning he died she called the people whose plane it was for permission to bring another person onboard.
