Frances Milstead, mother of Divine, dies at 88Frances Milstead, who reveled in her son Glenn's outsized persona as Divine, the drag-queen star of many John Waters films, died Tuesday morning at a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., hospice of complications from a stroke. She was 88. "It makes you feel good that people remember," Ms. Milstead once said of her son, who grew up in Lutherville and later found fame and became a cult figure starring in such Waters films as Female Trouble, Pink Flamingos and Hairspray. "I guess they'll never let him die." "She was a woman who really celebrated life," said Donald Campbell, who knew Ms. Milstead in Florida. "She was a belly dancer into her 60s, which should tell you something. You got caught up in her wave when you were with her." -The Baltimore Sun
